One Night in Tokyo
One Night in Tokyo was filmed over seven days on location in Tokyo, Japan with a small, agile crew. Joshua Woodcock served as writer, director, and cinematographer, embracing a fast-moving production style that allowed the team to capture the energy and spontaneity of the city while working in real locations throughout Tokyo.
Featuring both English and Japanese dialogue, the film was designed to authentically reflect the experience of navigating relationships across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Many of the locations seen in the film were places Joshua frequented during the six years he lived in Japan, adding a personal connection to the story and helping shape the film's atmosphere.
Produced independently, One Night in Tokyo was created with a focus on intimate storytelling, natural performances, and a visual style that places viewers alongside the characters as they move through the city over the course of a single night. The film went on to win the Audience Award for Best Drama at Cinequest and was later released worldwide.
