One Night in Tokyo – Storyboard BTS

Joshua Woodcock

One Night in Tokyo is finished and we're prepping for the festival season for next year, but I thought I'd share a little behind the scenes look into the process of creating the film.

For each film I do, I hand draw storyboards for every shot in the film. It helps me spot problems that might arise in the edit and allows me to condense my shot list to only what I intend on using in the final film. For One Night in Tokyo, I drew around 400 boards in the month leading up to production. Below are a few examples of the storyboard and what the final shot looked like. I highly recommend doing this, regardless of your artistic ability.
